The music and projects of Egyptian flautist Fayrouz Kaddal (High Dam Band, Africairo) and British violinist Daniel Merrill (Dead Rat Orchestra) is an exploration of a shared joy in ideas of folk and heritage. Combining traditionally melodic instrumentation of flute and violin their music is inspired by Nubian, Oriental and British musical traditions. Utilising extended techniques on their instruments they create a distinctively intimate music exploring the couples unique roots.
We successfully applied to Arts Council England to support the launch of our album, Rain Over Nubia, with a 7 date tour of the UK in Summer 2019.
We are currently in the process of confirming the dates, and will have information out soon.
In the meantime, have a look at the wonderful art work of Rana Kadry, the Egyptian artist who will be working with us and Antigen Records to make the Album look wonderful!
For regular info on what we are up to, and where are fascinations are leading us, check our social media feeds - lots happening there!
In December 2018 we performed as part of Shubbak El Fann festival at the Goethe Institute, Cairo, one of the best equipt, and most attractive small concert venues in Cairo.
The concert was filmed filmed by TeN TV, a news and culture channel, who ran a 40 minute programme about KaddalMerrill as part of their concert season.
